As Trump Looks to Dismantle the EPA, Concerned Members of the Community Will Rally to Demand that Senator Bennet Defends Public Health and the Environment

Trump is Proposing a 31 Percent Budget Cut at EPA; Action is One of Many Across the Country

Denver CO – As details of the Trump administration’s plans to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency and attack fundamental health and safety standards steadily come to light, dozens of concerned community leaders organized by Colorado People’s Alliance will take action on Wednesday to demand that Senator Bennet resist Trump’s agenda and defend the funding and mission of the EPA.

The administration announced on Thursday its intention to slash the EPA’s budget by 31 percent, and do away entirely with the agency’s programs on climate change and numerous large-scale pollution cleanup initiatives throughout the country. The responsibility now rests with Congress to reject Trump’s draconian plan and staunchly defend the EPA’s budget and function.

This event is one of many taking place this week in solidarity with a National Day of Action to Defend Public Health and the Environment, organized by the advocacy groups Food & Water Watch and People’s Action.

It is time for Senator Bennet to stand with Colorado to protect the Environmental Protection Agency and take leadership against any proposed cuts to the EPA’s budget. We must continue to fight to protect the health and safety of our air, water, and communities. Trump’s efforts to gut the EPA are another example of putting corporate interests and profits over our lives. We need the EPA to continue to enforce important regulations and requirements to keep our communities and environment safe. At the same time we must continue hold the EPA accountable to protecting communities of color from corporate polluters and a continued lack of investment that only amplifies environmental justice issues in our communities.
